Small Closet Organization: 5 Affordable Ideas For Extra Space Now

For Tidy Clothes

If you’re living in a not-so-roomy space or apartment without a big walk-in closet, you’ll know it’s easy to get overwhelmed by your stuff and feel like it’s impossible to have any small closet organization. And, you can’t see how you can organize your things the way you’d like to, much less on a budget.

But, organizing your small closet is just about having a layout that suits your needs and that helps you find exactly what you’re looking for by having everything in its place. Because you’ll have a place for everything, then every time you wear your clothes and clean them, you’ll know to put them back in their place.

Then it’s just about rinsing and repeating.

Another helpful thing is creating a capsule wardrobe so you have your essentials for your lifestyle and line of work.

If you want to be extra organized, you can order your clothes by color and by type. For example, put all clothes that are all or mostly all the color black together. Then, go a step further and put those clothes in groups by what type of piece they are….like cardigans, t-shirts, etc.

Putting accessories away in a storage basket will help put away small things.

Layout your outfit the night before or put it together and hang it on the inside of your door or on the front of your closet. That way, you don’t have to think about it in the morning and all you have to do is grab it and put it on and start your day.

These ideas will help you organize your small closet and keep it looking neat and tidy instead of cluttered and all over the place.

1. Storage Baskets with Tags

Keep small items or extra clothes that you don’t need every day in these cute storage baskets.

They also come with chalk tags so you can mark what’s in them.

2. 3-Tier Stackable Shoe Rack

A shoe rack is essential to any closet. Your shoes can easily get thrown around and lose their match and stacked on each other in a big pile, making it nearly impossible to find what you’re looking for when you’re in a hurry.

This shoe rack is good for a small space and will help you utilize your floor area but still keep your shoes tucked away and tidy.

I like to get more than one and separate my spring/summer and fall/winter shoes.

3. Metal Frame Clothes Storage Bin

This storage pin is great to have your clothes tucked away that you don’t need out every day. I like to put my sweaters and winter clothes in these during the hotter months and then put my summer clothes in them during the colder months.

They have a zipper in the front so you don’t have to move everything if you just need to grab one piece really quickly.

And they have a clear front so you can see what’s in them. They look cute and neutral enough to go with most decors.

4. Wire Shelf Dividers

Use these shelf dividers made for wire shelves to your top shelf stacks separated or separate his and hers clothes.

5. Closet Drawer Organizer

Add drawers to your closet with a roll-in organizer. It’s perfect for jewelry, scarfs, hats, sunglasses, and other things so you can maximize your space.

If you don’t have the budget or space for an IKEA type of shelving and drawer system, then this is the perfect second option.

I hope these tips were helpful! What’s your biggest pain when organizing your closet? Do you have any extra tips?
